Here's what we were working with - an aging wood deck that had run its course, overgrown landscaping eating up the yard, and no real usable outdoor space to speak of. The backyard had potential, but nothing about it was set up for actually spending time outside. That's the problem we get called in to solve.

We pulled the old deck and started fresh. The new deck is cleaner, sharper, and built to last - with black metal railings and composite decking that won't rot or warp on you. From there, we designed a two-level paver patio that flows right off the base of the deck. Light grey large-format pavers with a dark charcoal border give the whole thing a finished, polished look that the yard didn't have before.

The upper patio level works great as a dining or seating area. The lower level steps down to a seat wall - perfect for gathering around a firepit without dragging chairs all over the yard. Natural boulders anchor the retaining wall on the upper end and blend into the landscape in a way that feels intentional, not like an afterthought. A flagstone stepping stone path ties the whole yard together.

We also refreshed the plantings throughout - boxwoods, hydrangeas, and perennials tucked into fresh mulch beds along the patio edges. It gives the space structure and color without making it feel high-maintenance. The whole backyard went from underused and overgrown to a spot the family will actually want to be in.

Projects like this are what we do best - combining deck building and paver patio work into one cohesive design rather than treating them as two separate jobs. When everything is planned together from the start, the result is a yard that flows and functions the way it should.
